The 2008 AFL Dream Team Survival Guide

After waiting much longer than we all expected for the doors at VirtualSports.com.au to open, the moment we’ve all been eagerly anticipating has nearly arrived. The first round lockout for the 2008 season of AFL Dream Team, this year sponsored by the V6 Toyota Aurion, is nearly upon us.

A lot has happened in the world of Dream Team since I last wrote about the subject here. More and more sites dedicated to the number 1 Australian fantasy sports game are popping up seemingly daily, some of which contain absolute golden info that I would have only dreamed about having at my fingertips in the first couple of seasons I played. Here’s a list of some of the better ones.

  • DT Talk
This year, the boys at Dream Team Talk have been covering the latest DT news with their usual Tasmanian beer induced humour that we all love. They’ve upgraded their site to include their own Dream Team Forums, they’ve got some kick ass free Dream Team Resources, an archive of their hilarious videos, some sweet competitions, official DT merchandise and tons of advice to help make you a better DT’er. Plus they’ve invited anybody to join one of their Dream Team Leagues, which are almost all full, so if you want in – you had better be quick! DT Talk is certainly on my list of must-visit sites this DT season, it’s good stuff – get on it!
  • FanFooty
m0nty’s brilliant site FanFooty was a godsend last year for those of us wanting live dream team scores, even though this year the Official Dream Team site will also be offering live scoring, m0nty’s match time notes alone are probably worth the visit. The archived player statistics (including previous scores in Dream Team, SuperCoach and other Fantasy Footy games) section is a must for any serious Dream Teamer. The FanFooty Blog looks to be another brilliant source of information throughout the year, and if you’re interested in joining some of the other not so common fantasy leagues, be sure to read m0nty’s reviews. Last but not least, FanFooty’s own fantasy league, Lethal League opened its doors for the first time this year with a prize pool of nearly $5,000. If you can’t get enough Fantasy AFL, this one looks unique enough to make it very interesting. I especially like the idea of unlimited trades.
  • The Coaches Box
A weekly podcast dedicated to Dream Team from a couple of Hawthorn supporters, m0nty (from FanFooty) and Molly (of Molly’s Monday Machination fame).
  • Dream Team Hero
Looks to be another good source for information this year, a major feature of the site is the “Rate My Team” section.
  • BigFooty Dream Team Forum
The Bigfooty Dream Team Forum is still alive and strong. If you can manage to wade through the thousands of posts, you may just find a gem in amongst the lot.
  • Dream Team Forum
Another forum dedicated to AFL Dream Team, but this one requires registration.
  • With these sites as your guide, you should be in a better position to achieve heights greater than 90% of the aspiring Dream Team coaches in 2008. Good luck!
